Contemporary Classics - Matthew Williamson Launch Bridal Collection

Style :

When an award winning and leading UK designer launches a new bridal range there's bound to be hype. This feature is no exception I'm afraid! Last week I was lucky enough to attend the debut trunk show for the first Matthew Williamson Bridal collection at their Bruton Street store. The designs were inspired by the iconic styles from their ready to wear dresses over the last decade.  For me, when I first saw the collection I thought it was a breath of fresh air, it's great to see a UK designer launch with a collection for the modern bride but that keeps the romanticism and elegance too.

Juliet McKee of Sugar and Spice Photography was there to capture the event, the flowers [so pretty] the cakes [oh yum] and the people [lots of lovelies], so do take a look at her wonderful blog feature  on the trunk show to see the all the details and of course the gorgeous dresses in action on the catwalk.

Naturally, with the glamorous Matthew Williamson occasion wear pieces being chosen for wearing at weddings, introducing a new bridal collection seemed like a natural progression.  You can clearly see with the designs how some of his signature styles that he is renowned for have been translated into stunning wedding gowns for contemporary luxury.

As you would expect from a top designer, there is a high level of craftsmanship that emulates from the Matthew Williamson Bridal designs, with elaborate beading, sumptuous fabrics and hand sewn feathers. The silhouettes are soft, yet structured and of course for someone like me who is passionate about tulle, there is an air of romance also.  The collection has variety, with shorter dresses for urban brides and ruffled silk maxi dresses for those jetting off for a beach wedding.

London Brides favourites have to be the silk gown with the swarowski crystal asymmetric strap and the silk tulle feather gown with asymmetric strap [clearly i like a bit of a jaunty angle!] Both of which you can see at the top of this feature. Also, just for the record love the styling of these shots. The unfussy swept back hair and the nude shoes is just spot on. Also all the make up artists I know keep banging on about strong eyebrows, which seem to feature here too. A classic bridal look?

The accessories range also has some lovely additions, especially the cropped fur shrugs, which will be perfect for keeping brides snug at that opulent winter wedding.
